Gerry Hogue - President & CEO

Gerry is the founder of VieCure, and presently serves as its President & CEO.  He has spent many years working in the field of enabling technologies for cancer care, and is excited to now be leading the charge in genomics-based, personalized medicine that empowers cancer patients and their families.

Prior to the creation of VieCure, Gerry worked in various capacities with Elekta, Inc., a global provider of medical devices for treatment of cancer and brain disorders, culminating in his appointment as Senior Vice President & General Manager.  In this capacity, he was responsible for all of Elekta’s North American operations, and served on its Global Management Committee.

Prior to his work with Elekta, in 1993, Gerry founded OpTx Corporation, a company that created the world’s first oncology-specific electronic medical record and decision support systems. As President & CEO, he raised more than $35M in capital and developed the company into an internationally respected healthcare services and technology company before its eventual sale to Varian Medical Systems, itself a leading supplier of medical devices for radiation therapy in the oncology community.  In recognition of his work with OpTx, Gerry was awarded the Rocky Mountain Region’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2001.

Gerry was previously a Partner with Price Waterhouse Management Consultants, responsible for its IT and Business Transformation practice areas in Canada’s Northwest Region, and before that worked with Alberta Treasury Board where he managed development, implementation and maintenance of large information systems.

When not working, Gerry likes to spend time with family in Colorado’s beautiful Rocky Mountains. He is also a Masters level coach with USA Hockey, and has positively influenced the lives of countless young athletes through many years spent coaching in the youth ranks.

Fred Ashbury, PhD MACE - Chief Scientific Officer

Fred is a co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at VieCure. He is responsible for developing and maintaining VieCure’s oncology clinical content, genomic-science knowledge identification and codification, and the design and implementation of the treatment strategy rules that underpin our platform.

He received his bachelor’s degree (honors) from the University of Toronto, his Master’s degree from Queen’s University, and his doctorate from York University, with a focus on behavioral sciences.

He was the co-founder for Intelligent Improvement Consultants, a healthcare management consulting firm.  He is a former senior executive with the National Cancer Institute of Canada, Cancer Care Ontario, and the Alberta Cancer Board, OpTx Corporation, and BridgeSite Clinical Research.  Fred founded two other successful healthcare management consultancies with clients in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Australia earning several million dollars in revenue.

With his background, Fred has mentored oncology practices and networks worldwide to define key performance indicators and quality metrics based on current evidence and practice to be used to establish practice accountability, reporting and quality improvement.

He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology; board member for the Multi-National Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC); Chair of the Guidelines Committee, MASCC; and member of the University of Swinburne Industry Research Advisory Committee.

His university appointments include the University of Toronto, Canada and Department of Oncology, University of Calgary. He has published 80+ peer-reviewed articles and major reports in oncology health services delivery, quality in cancer care, and supportive care and is the Editor-in-Chief for the top-ranked journal Supportive Care in Cancer.

He and his wife Gail have two sons, Andrew and Jeremy and they love to travel whenever possible.

Michael Power - Chief Business Development Officer

Michael is the Chief Business Development Officer. He helped found VieCure and leads the Global Business Development portfolio.

Michael received his Masters in International Management from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He completed his undergraduate degree in Public Administration and Political Science at Lakehead University.  He attended Western Michigan University on a NCAA Division I Hockey Scholarship and is a NHL draftee of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.

Michael has more than twenty-years of executive level experience in cancer medicine. He was a Regional Vice President for Cancer Care Ontario, the largest managed cancer system in the world, and functioned as an Executive Vice President for one of Ontario’s Academic Health Science Centers. Michael’s senior management responsibilities have included oversight for radiation oncology, systemic therapy, surgical oncology, molecular imaging, pathology, inpatient care, palliative care and cancer research. Michael served as Chief Executive Officer for the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute where he helped raise more than $100M to support the establishment of Canada’s newest molecular imaging research program. He was responsible for opening the country’s newest cyclotron facility and helped to recruit 15 world-leading career and clinician scientists to the province and more than 100 new professional staff.  

Michael was named one of Canada’s TOP 40 Under 40 in 2010 and recognized by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives with the Robert Zed Memorial Award.  

In 2012,  Michael joined Elekta AB and was subsequently promoted to Vice President and Managing Partner of the Elekta Enterprise Solutions Group and appointed to the Elekta Global Management Committee.   Michael was named the top Elekta business performer in 2015.  

He continues to sit as a Member of the Board of Directors for Canada’s largest independent Telecom Company – TBayTel.  He is past Board Member of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the Northern Cancer Research Foundation.  

Michael and his wife Joanna have two children – Grace Victoria and Carson Christopher.

Nancy Hogue, CPA CA - Chief Financial Officer

One of the original partners in VieCure, Nancy Hogue currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, with a wide range of responsibilities spanning finance, accounting, contracting & legal, human resources management and programs, facilities and other administrative roles.  Nancy holds CPA and CA professional designations, as well as a BComm (Hons) undergraduate degree.

With a varied background in education, project management, mergers and acquisitions, audit, financial information systems, business process re-engineering, and accounting policy and procedures, Nancy has most recently provided financial, project management, tax and related services to clients through her consulting company.

Her prior experience included management positions with Varian Medical Systems, OpTx Corporation and Air Canada.  During and immediately following qualification as a Chartered Accountant, she worked with Price Waterhouse as a manager in its Audit & Business Advisory Services practice unit, with additional responsibilities as Continuing Education Coordinator and National Instructor for the firm’s CE programs.

When not working, Nancy enjoys spending time with her husband and 5 children. She also enjoys playing tennis, and has served her community with leadership roles in local charities, youth sports and school organizations.

Steven Malme - Chief Technology Officer

As Chief Technology Officer, Steven leads VieCure’s engineering, research & development team and drives continued enhancements to the VieCure oncology platform.

Steven comes to VieCure from Microsoft where he led Corporate Accounts and Partner Sales in Asia, driving sales performance and an optimal customer experience. He held this same leadership position for Europe, the Middle East & Africa, driving double-digit revenue growth and launching the cloud transformation across Microsoft’s sales team and partner channel. Microsoft offered him the opportunity to work in many senior leadership roles including assuming global responsibility for health care industry sales and Dynamics partners.

Beyond his experience with Microsoft, Steven served as Vice President of Professional Services for OpTx Corp where he was responsible for re-engineering cancer care programs across North America. He also has experience with IBM Corp, where he developed enterprise operating systems, and Great Plains Software, as the Development Manager for the Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains solution.
